| The Certificate of Recognition (COR) is awarded to employers that develop and implement a Safety Program which meets established standards.
Certificates are issued by Certifying Partners and co-signed by Alberta Human Resources and Employment. The COR was developed between the Alberta Government and associations, agencies, labour organizations and others who believe that by working together they can have a greater impact on injury reduction than by working alone. The WCB offers incentives to employers that obtain their COR with a 5% savings on their WCB premiums. If an employer then becomes a member of the Partnership in Injury Reduction Program (PIR) additional WCB savings up to 20% can be achieved. eg: An oilfield construction company employing 40 workers reduced its WCB claim costs from $21,000 to less than $500 over a two year period. A roofing contractor with 24 workers implemented a health and safety program that resulted in WCB claim costs dropping from $24,000 to less than $1,200.
